I don’t care who honestly. I’m more concerned about first unit defense than second unit defense. At this point, Monroe or Villanueva is better suited to start. I honestly don’t care which one. “Anchoring the second unit defense” is about 15th or so on my priority list. When the second unit includes such defensive luminaries as Bynum, Gordon, McGrady and Charlie Villanueva, you could bring in Bill Russell and I don’t think anyone is going “anchor” that unit.
And as I’ve said, Daye hasn’t played poorly, he’s just not a four. Not even close to a four actually. Now, whether he starts or comes off the bench, he’ll have to play there some this year because the team doesn’t have any depth there, but it makes more sense to use him as a sub. His shooting is too good to not have on the court, positions are less important on the second unit where more teams mix and match.

i have asked this before but i will repeat myself: who are you going to bring off the bench to anchor the defense and set screens on offense if Monroe starts?

CV had his best game as a Piston. He got a few “look what i found” rebounds, but he fought down low tonight and put some body on people. Don’t think we can expect that every game but it was nice to see.

“anyone who wants him with the starters is crazy?” uh, that’s crazy. there are some great arguments for having him start at the 4. and daye can’t last, can he? villa’s tearing it up by comparison, and if you insist on daye at the 4, he would be more effective off the bench with the bynum brigade.

gordon obviously “earned” the job. just like bynum probably has with his body of work (and his ability to play with rip), but all it took was that one breakout game where rip plays great and leads us in scoring to cement him there forever. i don’t think he’d be a bad bench player right now, especially with bynum coming off the bench with him. it’s ridiculous that kuester refuses to pair them right.

and is anyone else uncomfortable with having one of the league’s worst front lines while paying max $5 m annually to sit?

I want the best players to start. Anyone who thinks Austin Daye has been better than Monroe this season is crazier.

Rip Hamilton has played really well with Bynum tonight. So yeah, not only does Gordon deserve to start, Rip would potentially be more effective on the second unit anyway.

Sad realization, Ben Wallace is the best Piston player right now. I love Big Ben to death but that just makes you sad. On the bright side that dish to Stuckey for the jam was sweet.

Greg Monroe is doing a great job anchoring the second unit. He is setting good screens, rolling with his hands up ready for the pass, and catching the ball in traffic. It is interesting to watch him learn what he has to do to finish in the NBA. He is using his forward momentum and using slighly different shot release angles and it is working for him. Anyone who wants him with the starters is crazy. Unless you also want Ben Wallace moved to the bench.

Stuckey had a great first half – showed excellent court awareness while driving to the basket on three different occasions. McGrady looks slow. He has no lift in his legs so everytime he shoots it is short.

I don’t like Q’s decision to start Rip over Ben Gordon. Anybody else think Gordon earned the starting job?
