If your C and/or PF is turning it over 5 times again and committing 4 fouls per game, he'd better be putting up Dwight Howard numbers everywhere else. Otherwise, he's a net negative.

This will be Monroe's challenge and the question that Piston writers (and frankly, player evaluation staff) should be asking of Monroe during his rookie and 2nd seasons.

some game quotes courtesy of Keith at Pistons.com

Greg Monroe is becoming a man in our league,” Kuester said. “He’s going to have slippage, but he’s going to be a very nice player. He has an overall game. Don’t take his being a nice person as a sign of weakness. He’s got a lot of physical attributes, (but) he can play the game dirty, also. He’s got great passing skills and showed that nice little touch on the pick and pop. He’s just a basketball player. He’s old school.”
“It’s just getting adjusted,” Monroe said. “I had a couple of open looks, easy baskets in the second half on the break and in the offense. Everybody on the team is unselfish and it’s becoming contagious.”
“Greg’s playing great,” Will Bynum said. “He’s still learning, so he’s going to get better and better. Austin has been tremendous. He’s a four man who is going to cause nightmares. But he’s not a four man, he’s really a two guard – a 7-foot two guard, so he’s a nightmare. You know what you’re going to get with Max – the energy, the offensive rebounds. If we can get him to defensive rebound a little bit more and continue to play as well as he has on the offensive end, we can do some damage.”
“Our practices have been great defensively,” Bynum said. “We’ve been focusing on boxing out and the smaller things – chopping your feet on closeouts, not letting guys get into the paint. Me and Stuckey have been pushing each other to the limit every day and I think it’s carrying over to everybody. It’s also carrying over out here on the court. As long as we continue doing that, I think we’ll give ourselves a chance to win ballgames.”

NBA preseason games are usually heavily scouted – it’s a chance to see little-used players or players likely to be cut. Also, there were only three NBA games on Monday’s schedule. But Monday’s game was unusually heavy with scouts – 11 teams were represented.

Other than the turnovers Monroe had a nice game and showcased his offensive skills. I was impressed with his ability to beat his man in transition and with his rebounding. He needs to get stonger but he is going to be a nice player in this league.
