Detroit Pistons add Ike Diogu to training camp roster

From a team release:

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – The Detroit Pistons announced today the addition of Ike Diogu to the 2010-11 training camp roster.

Diogu, the ninth overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft, has career averages of 6.1 points and 3.1 rebounds in 187 games with Golden State, Indiana, Portland and Sacramento. A veteran of four NBA seasons, Diogu averaged a career-high 7.0 points as a rookie with the Warriors in 2005-06. The 2005 Pac-10 Player of the Year averaged 21.4 points and 8.8 rebounds in 91 career games over three seasons at Arizona State. The 6-9, 250-pound forward missed last season with a knee injury.

So, there’s the extra big man Joe Dumars mentioned. I like this move. I think Diogu could still contribute. DaJuan Summers and Terrico White have to be feeling a little pressure.

It’s possible the Pistons still add Earl Barron or Vernon Hamilton, but my guess is they’re done.

Update: Vernon Hamilton still hopes to practice tomorrow.

personally i think it is Chris Wilcox who should be feeling the heat but maybe the fact that his contract is expiring makes him to valuable a chip to cut? It’s certain that he is not going to contribute defensively. I have never seen an athletic big man with worse footwork, positioning, and anticipation. His lack of court awareness always astonishes me. How do you get to that level and know so little about defense?

Feldman and I were just talking about that tonight. Personally, I agree with you — Wilcox is the one guy on the team who is never, ever mentioned by any coach or teammate. I would say Summers is probably on the bubble as well, but if Diogu is productive and Summers and White have good camps, it wouldn’t be a shocker to see them eat Wilcox’s deal and release him.
