And to add another point. Maybe its people who don't understand basketball or are not a "true fan" or just someone who only occasionally watches basketball think that Piston and Spurs defense first is boring. Maybe they just don't understand that every little thing in the game matters to the end result and not just a flashy dunk or jacking up three after three wins games.

Yes, I don't understand why people say the style of the Pistons and Spurs is boring. If I remember correctly The 2005 finials was one of the highest rated finials. Each game seemed to come down to the few minutes and it went to 7 games. It was just a awesome series, and all though it didn't end up well for the Pistons, they still showed heart and determination. I like how you said every possession was a war. I agree with that, I mean i was on the edge of my seat every second. Except the last quarter of game 7, i was more slouched in my seat when everything started to fall apart.

Ginobili is far from the only player in the league to flop. Frequently. But he and Varejao (which I previously mentioned) stick out pretty far to me as some of the worst offenders around. I'm sure that's no coincidence to the fact that each of them play for teams the Pistons have faced somewhat recently during high-stakes playoff series.

I actually wasn't around during the reign of the Bad Boys, but yes, Bruce Bowen did play a similar breed of basketball. I'm sure he was just one of those players who you love if he plays for you, and hate if he doesn't. I'll freely admit that. But he didn't play for us. I'm sure you can follow my logic. (Besides, the magic number is three. Three examples to make your point. Everyone knows that.)

Graham,

How is Bowen any different than the Bad Boys? The only difference is he's not a Piston.

Yes, Ginobili flops a lot. But so does most of the league. I don't like it, but he doesn't do it enough more than average player to really get me frustrated.

[...] Dan Feldman’s second favorite team is San Antonio, “When I watch the Spurs, I see what the Pistons could have been. And Detroit was just the Darko pick away from being San Antonio. I rarely feel strongly about a team other than the Pistons. I didn’t really root for the Spurs as much as I recognized they were everything I wished the Pistons were. But now I want them to be the rich man’s Detroit, so they can get Antonio McDyess the ring he deserves.” (emphasis mine) Piston Powered [...]

Outside of the analysis, I hate this question. I don't believe in having second favorite teams in sports. I was raised to follow a team and put all my effort into it. The higs and the lows, thats what makes sports so fun. Opening it up to other teams just never felt right. I dont agree that it was just the Darko pick, Sheed has always been a cancer. He made the diff in 04, but blew an obvious cover in 05 and cost us a title. He subsequent meltdowns in following years proved costly. I blame him and if I think about it, it will sting. I follow players, sure, Billups was always my favorite Piston, but while I wish him success, I bleed the royal and red, maize and blue, the lightning bolt (Chargers), Tiger Woods, the Red Wings, and the Detroit Tigers. No other teams, individuals matter...

Yes. I absolutely agree. Especially with the end, I will root hard for the Spurs next year, just like I rooted on the Nuggets last year (except against the Pistons, of course). I love McDyess. That man deserves a ring.

Before Billups was traded to Denver, the Suns teams of Nash, Marion and Amar'e were my second favorite. Now I root for Denver, and not just because Billups. Nene and Andersen, not to mention J.R. Smith, play an exciting style of basketball. I don't even like Melo.

When Billups got traded, Denver became my second team. I was hoping Billups will stay to win a ring for Dice. I salute you Billups and Dice.
